Bags: Real vs. Steal

Fashion trends are one of the most dynamic things on the face of the earth. Something that was ‘in fashion’ a month back might not have as much of a fan base today. However, there are certain items that are absolutely classic and timeless pieces and a lot of that never go out of style. Most of these classic staples are high end or luxury fashion which most of us love.

“Ironically, a luxury brand must be known by all but consumed by a selected few.”

Agreed, otherwise, it wouldn’t have been ‘Luxury’.

Had it not been for fast fashion retailers such as Zara and H&M, those classic wardrobe staples would not have been available to people like us. Not just these fast fashion brands, there are other retailers as well where you may find a look-alike for such luxury staple items.

I have listed 5 classic timeless bags which were circulated in the market by the high-end brands but are now available for way lesser price on other retail as well. Also, I have mentioned certain places where you may find look-alike bags.

1. CHANEL BOY BAG

This bag is my personal favorite and I really wish to get one in the future (hopefully). Upon launch, the boy bag took the world by storm, catching the attention of the fashion world and quickly becoming a favorite among Chanel and handbag lovers worldwide. Fun Fact, the Boy Bag is named after Boy Capel, the love of Coco Chanel’s life.

2. TWEED BAG

Tweed is again a classic which was made famous by Chanel, is still a big rage in the luxury market, which, eventually was loved by other people as well who couldn’t afford it. Because it is such a resonating symbol to luxury people make it a point to own a tweed bag from the fast fashion retail, if not a luxury store. I recently bought a tweed bag from Zara which is a look-alike of the Chanel Tweed Classic Flap Bag from Cruise 2016 collection.

3. CLEAR BAG

Clear bags have been a trend in the market for quite some time now. Earlier, even the thought of carrying a bag which is transparent was absurd, like what is even the purpose of carrying things on a bag where people can clearly see it, might as well carry all the things in your hand. However, this trend has made a smacking entry in the fashion world thanks to Celine, Prada, Chanel and Louis Vuitton and is not going out of style anytime soon.

4. FANNY PACK

This bag by far is an ultra-convenient bag and has long been the accessory of choice for dorks and tourists. Now, it has got a full design and marketing makeover from fashion labels, who have rebranded it as a ’waist bag’, ‘belt bag’, ‘bum bag’ or ‘hip bag’. The trend has been slowly picking up momentum on the streets and runways for a few years now, but rather than fizzling out, it keeps getting bigger.

5. Hermès Birkin

This is the dream bag of even Richie Rich's. Like, who isn’t familiar with the Hermès Birkin on the face of Earth. Who remembers 'Bagwati' from ZNMD (that was Hermès Kelly, though). Studies have shown that rare Birkin bags have averaged a 14.2% annual return over the past few decades- as an average index that beats out both the S&P 500 index and the price of gold. Choose your investments wisely!
